"At Stanford, I look forward to offering patients the most cutting edge technologies. I am committed to providing less invasive surgical procedures that will allow patients to recover in less time. Minimal access surgery allows patients to return to work faster and provides a better quality of life. I hope to apply minimal access surgical techniques to patient’s with a wide variety of diseases, including lung cancer and gastrointestinal reflux disease."

Dr. Merritt came to Stanford from Massachusetts General Hospital where he completed his cardiothoracic surgery residency. He earned his medical degree at Cornell University Medical College. He completed his General Surgery residency at New York-Presbyterian Hospital-Cornell Medical Center where he served as administrative chief resident in the Department of Surgery.

Dr. Merritt practices all aspects of thoracic surgery but has special interest in minimal access surgery for gastroesophageal reflux disease, VATS lobectomy for lung cancer, and tracheal surgery. He plans to conduct outcomes research in patients undergoing thoracic surgical procedures.
